The Iron Guard: a Dual Perspective

Hello! I am Sara, the Co-Founder of Phase Learning, and this is my ethnography, a specialised piece of work in Anthropology.

I am excited to present the historical background and the diverse opinions related to the Iron Guard in an anthropological manner: an interwar Romanian fascist movement that has had tremendous influence over the country in the 20s and 30s.

I spent roughly four months conducting 30 interviews (with an average age of 27 for the interviewees) and elaborating in depth on the diversity of the responses. The purpose of the study was to highlight the impact that the movement had and currently has on the mindset of Romanians and whether a line between extremism and traditions is easy to define.

I am grateful for the help of Radu Umbreș, an Anthropology professor at the National University of Political and Administrative Studies (SNSPA), who guided me through the writing process of the ethnography and advised me beforehand.
