How colours affect the way we feel...

What is the first thing that you see when you open your eyes? Well, I got your answer. A color. What is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about an object? Its color. Everywhere you look you see various pigments that blend together creating a landscape. The palette of shades that human eyes are capable of detecting is very important to our minds. Every color transmits a different signal to the brain so our perception of it is distinct. For instance, red is associated with love and passion, pink with soft and reserved, green with nature, blue with calm, purple with noble and mysteriousness, yellow with hope and joy, orange with kindness and warmth, white with truth, and black with noble and cold.

If your associations do not correspond with the standard don’t worry because you are not alone. A study had shown that only 68% of the participants think of love when they see red, the rest of them thinking about anger.

Colors can, surprisingly, influence you in many areas of your life. For example, white pills are associated with greater pain relief so you will be induced to think a pill will have a better result just because it’s white. Another aspect of people’s life where colors influenced them is in sports, more exactly in athleticism, where the material of the athletic field is red. Researchers have shown that athletes run faster on the red ground because it stimulates their muscles. Colors can trigger these arousal states and emotions.

Color psychology is very important when you are decorating your house because the pigment can influence the mood that you will have in the room. Colors can trigger these arousal states and emotions. Several studies show the impact of the paint color used in offices or living rooms on the mood of people in them. For a kitchen, the best color is yellow because it is associated with food. That is the reason so many restaurants have elements in this color. For a bedroom, you can use colors like baby blue or light purple if you want a relaxing space.

It is important for us to understand how colors work and how we can take advantage of them. We can trick our minds with their help and we can learn about what feelings are we experiencing, as an exercise of self-awareness.
