Is extremism on the rise?

About a week ago I got an email saying that I can be a part of a MEP conference in Iasi, in which I was going to represent the interests of a far-right German politician, called Markus Buchheit.

That email led me to a four hour long research session on this guy, and I must say, he is really trying to be the main character on the German political scene.

First of all, he is an active member of the European Parliament, with some reforms under his belt as well as a lot of speeches against certain laws or initiatives, the most famous one being his statement against the European Green deal. He is also part of the AfD, a party famous for certain ”things” in Germany, like some statements against the Muslim community or relativizing the Holocaust.

Despite all of that, the party still got a lot of votes, and he got another mandate in the European parliament.

The worst part about this is that phenomena like this are slowly becoming a normality within the union, which may lead each country on the darkest path it can ever imagine, which is why I am writing this to warn you about what is going on.

I will attempt to walk you through why this is happening and what you might be able to do about it.

So, what’s an extremist? Is a certain kind of politician that promotes a radical perception of the world, simply something that a lot of people find unreasonable, which makes every diplomatic process more complicated for everyone. This is the kind of politician who will either block every diplomatic process known to him, so that everything will go exactly as he would like to, or call everyone he wants to an extremist, just because he is able to. They used to be seen just as something out of the ordinary, but in our era, due to an more than one crisis destroying the natural order of the society we live in, tensions outside and within our continent they were able to exploit the fear us as humans have for everything that is unknown in order to make their harsh perception about the world the only viable solution we can find to our day-to-day problems.

On top of all of that, a bad political elite and the ever growing popularity of some unhealthy ideas made things even worse, thus everyone became unhappy with traditional political parties. That not only helped the extremists but transformed them into a force not to be reckoned with.

Here is the catch though, the people who agree with them are humans just like you, who want the same thing as you. The only difference is that they were convinced by those politicians that there is only one way to achieve what they want, which is not so different from what you want, if you think about it, belongs to them.

So, what you can do is educate yourself, control your emotions and most importantly do not let this mess to your head. Also, do not hate on people who support people like Markus Buchheit either.

You should just stay informed about what is going on right now, control your feelings about a certain person or idea and please let go of any biases you previously believed in.

Stay educated, live your life as you would if none of this were happening, but keep an eye on the web, so that you know what those guys are up to and stand by your principles on how a great society should look like.

Your main focus in this storm of politics is to let them know that if they do something bad for something or someone you care about. If they do not care it is your duty to make them care.

They are politicians, they either get it or not, and if they do not, make them understand. Protest, message them on instagram, mention them in a video or do anything in your power to let them know that what they are doing is harmful for you or anything else that you support. This requires a lot of bravery, and returns may be slow, but that should not stop you. So, whenever you can, do whatever you can to make them hear you.
