The silent majority

The silent majority is a concept which became popular in the US, during Richard Nixon's run for presidency, and now  by Donald J. Trump to win the support of the people, and it is referring to a group of individuals who do not like to share their opinions and have more patience than most of the people, which makes them easy to maneuver and a valuable group to have among your supporters.

Now why am I telling you this? Because this is a word-wide problem, present in every environment, whether we are talking about a classroom, where you are to scared to raise your hand because of the teacher, in the society, where most of the people fear the consequences of competing with the politicians or rich people or even in your house, in which you are not going to tell your parents that you are a gay person or a smoker because, according to you, you will be dead, and I’ll try to talk you out of it.

There are plenty of reasons behind this phenomena, we are going through all of them, in order to find a solution.

Let’s start with the first one, lack of communication skills. That is mostly a problem when children are trying to communicate with adults. To solve this, I recommend finding the appropriate time to talk with that person and when you do that don’t overdo anything,  try to make your point as clear as possible and always demand respect. I also recommend the A.I.D.A. technique. Breathe 5 times down to your belly,  think about a moment in which you had a big success, try to reproduce that feeling, and say something good about yourself, then imagine that you already had the conversation you wanted to, and it was a success, and then go for it.

The second reason might be the consequences that come with speaking up. Whether they might be bad because of some culture or of the environment itself. There are some things to do here: if communicating to a close person is the problem, you should go easy and introduce the idea in a slow manner, so that their affection for you and the dislike of the idea you are trying to introduce can clash and alter each other, thus reaching a happy ending.  If this does not involve someone close, you can either try to educate them, but that might be hard, or find your little safe group in which you are free to say anything or talk with your friends and  find together, that fits your needs and the requirements of the environment because  a team can do more things that a individual.

The final reason might be lack of conflict solving. Here things are more complicated, because there are too many kinds of people or circumstances that I have to check in order to develop something, which is why I am going going to suggest IES technique, I stands for inform: inform that person that you have problem, E stands for engage or exchange: make a little debate in which you’ll share every point of view, so that you get a better understanding of the situation, and the S stands for solve or surpass: after everything is done, with a little help from your closest allies you either solve the issue, and hug it out or walk it of, and hopefully never bump into each other again.

These are the problems that these people face and  the methods of getting over them, by even if you don’t find anything here useful do not worry, the internet is full of ways to do what I just told and just because you made it this far into the article, I believe in you, and I hope you do as well.
